The confirmation comes as filming continues at Pinewood Studios in London. Moore recently shared a production update via social media featuring a camera slate labeled “Alien Earth 208.” The numbering strongly suggests that the second season will consist of eight episodes, maintaining the structure established during the show’s development. Alien: Earth originally premiered its first season on August 12, 2025, serving as a prequel to the 1979 Ridley Scott classic.
Moore’s transition from cinematography to directing the finale follows his extensive experience capturing claustrophobic, high-stakes environments in Silo. This aesthetic alignment is particularly relevant for the Alien franchise, which relies heavily on atmospheric tension and industrial visual design. His work on Hijack further established his ability to manage narrative pacing within confined settings.
Expanded Cast and Production Context
The second season is set to feature a significantly expanded ensemble. Joining the cast for the new chapters are Game of Thrones alumni Peter Dinklage and Jerome Flynn. The production has also added Tracey Ullman and Sam Spruell to the roster, though specific character details for the new arrivals remain under wraps.
The continued momentum for the television expansion of the franchise comes at a time when Ridley Scott’s theatrical ventures are facing financial scrutiny. Scott’s latest film, The Dog Stars, has reportedly grossed approximately $39 million globally as of late September 2026. With a production budget estimated between $70 million and $110 million, the film’s box office performance contrasts with the aggressive multi-season commitment FX has shown toward Alien: Earth.
While Moore’s post regarding the finale has led to speculation that principal photography may be nearing completion, FX has not yet issued a formal statement regarding a production wrap. The network has also not confirmed a specific release window for the second season, though the current filming schedule at Pinewood suggests a substantial post-production phase will follow through early 2027.
