The work of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference began today at its thirty-fourth session, which is taking place in the capital of Iraq, Baghdad, with the participation of His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council and the head of the delegation of the Kingdom, Sheikh Doctor and regional and international organizations. The conference, titled “Arab Support for Strengthening Iraq’s Stability and Sovereignty,” began with a speech by His Excellency the President of the Arab Parliamentary Union, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament. parliament of Muhammad Rikan al-Khalbusi, in which he stated that this Arab parliamentary assembly represents an important step in strengthening relations between Arab countries.
Al-Khalbusi added: “We recognize the importance of this Arab support in moving towards a secure Iraq, a stable Middle East and an Arab homeland that grows and progresses in parallel with the needs of the times and the demands of the present. and future stage. It is expected that during the discussions and proposals at the conference, numerous results will be obtained on issues of the Arab nation and developments in the regional and international arenas of common interest and urgent importance.
In addition, the Secretary General of the Union, Faiz Al-Shawabke, announced the approval of the agenda of the conference and the transfer of the chairmanship of the Union from the Bahrain Parliamentary Branch to the Iraqi Parliamentary Branch, which is headed by the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq, Muhammad al-Khalbusi. The agenda of the conference was also considered.
Earlier, the heads of the Arab councils and parliaments participating in the 34th conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in Baghdad held their consultative meeting, during which the agenda of the conference was considered and discussed, as well as a number of issues related to enhancing cooperation and ways to strengthen joint Arab actions.
The Association of Secretaries General of the Arab Parliaments also held its forty-second periodic meeting in Baghdad in the presence of His Excellency the General Secretary of the Shura Council, Mr. Muhammad bin Dahil Al-Mutairi, at which the topics included in the agenda were discussed.
During the meetings that accompanied the conference, member of the Shura Council and member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Bandar bin Muhammad Asiri attended the thirtieth and thirty-first meetings of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.
