Next Monday, His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Asir Region, is sponsoring a ceremony organized by the Saudi Paragliding Federation in cooperation with the Asir Region Development Authority to mark the selection of the city of Abha as the Federation Headquarters, which will take place in the “sky Abhi” – the strategy of the Federation for the coming years, in the presence of masses of practitioners and amateurs of “powerless” paragliding.
The choice of the Asir region as the main center of the federation was due to the diverse terrain that helps in the creation of such air sports, as well as the interest and enthusiasm for paragliding in the region, since the Asir region was the starting point for this. sport more than 20 years ago. The number of paragliders in all regions of the Kingdom can reach more than 248 people, 52% of which are from the Asir region.
The Saudi Paragliding Federation aims to promote the sport, create a suitable and attractive environment for paragliding amateurs and professionals, and prepare a new generation of Saudi talent to compete in local and international competitions. The sport is up from 19% in 2020 to 40% by 2030.
