Turkey’s Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) said Sunday that more than 6,000 tremors followed the devastating earthquake that hit the Turkish-Syrian border. of which were values greater than 5 on the Richter scale.
Tatar noted that the continuation of tremors is expected, which will negatively affect the already “affected local population.”
The Turkish official urged local residents to stay away from damaged buildings, adding that authorities are still assessing the extent of damage to strategic infrastructure, including dams and tunnels.
It is worth noting that the devastating earthquake claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people and destroyed or damaged about 105,000 buildings, in addition to displacing tens of thousands in southeastern Turkey.
At dawn on February 6, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed a few hours later by another magnitude 7.6 earthquake and hundreds of strong tremors that killed people and property in the two countries.
