Barcelona coach Javi Hernandez felt the referees should interpret their decisions in front of the media, as did the coaches, after objecting to referee whistles yesterday, Tuesday, against Italian hosts Inter (0-1) in the Champions League on football.
VAR’s video assistant referee blocked Pedri’s goal for Barcelona from a handball on Ansu Fati (68), before intervening again for the Nerazzuri, denying the Catalan club a penalty after demanding a handball on the Dutchman. Denzel Dumfries (90+1).
“I think the referee should explain his decisions,” Xavi said after the match. He should come here and explain, but he went home.”
He continued, “He needs to talk. It would be important for him to explain his decisions, as we do. It is very important”.
Barcelona are third in their group on the first round with 3 points from 3 matches, while Bayern are leading with nine points and Inter are second (6).
“I’m angry,” Javi continued, “I wanted to talk to him to understand his decisions. It doesn’t make sense, it’s unfair, but that’s football.”
As for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, he said he only saw Fati’s handball, trying to focus on getting Inter back on track after a poor start to the season.
“We were focused,” Inzaghi said. Beating a team of this quality gives us confidence. We really needed it. I feel comfortable because on Saturday (in the 2-1 loss to Roma) I saw good things from the team, but with mistakes that wouldn’t have cost us in other matches.”
