While the fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces is concentrated in eastern Ukraine, as well as in some southern regions, Kyiv said progress was being made in the south.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said “happy and positive” news had come in from the southeastern Zaporozhye region, adding that Ukrainian forces were making progress there in repelling Russian forces.

He also said in a video message that Ukrainian forces are gradually advancing in the Kharkiv region east of Kyiv, “freeing the land”, and demanded the imposition of long-term sanctions against Russia.
