As Avatar: The Way of Water passes the $2 billion mark at the box office, veteran actress Zoe Saldana has reached a rare goal that sets her apart from her Hollywood peers.
Saldana has an impressive resume that spans fandoms like Avatar, Star Trek, and Marvel universes. She is among the highest-grossing actors, though she would not be too upset if she did not get called back for Marvel.
Several stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are in the top three, including Robert Downey Jr. ($14.393 billion), Samuel L. Jackson ($14.376 billion), and Scarlett Johansson, who made $14.5 billion.
Even though the Marvel three have made more money at the box office, Saldana has joined the most exclusive club.
Zoe Saldana makes history at the box office
Zoe Saldana is the first actor ever to be in four movies that have made more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
The actress played Neytiri in Avatar ($2.9 billion) and Avatar: The Way of Water ($2 billion). In Avengers: Infinity War ($2.052 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion), she played Gamora.
Only six movies have made more than $2 billion at the box office.
Gamora, played by Saldana, was not a main character in the last two Avengers movies, but she was still very important in both. Fans and critics have also given the actress high marks for her role as Neytiri in the first two Avatar movies.
Saldana is the best-selling actress of all time and a worldwide star. Saldana will likely set more records because she will be back as Neytiri in more Avatar movies.
Both director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau have hinted that Neytiri will live on after the events of Avatar 3. If she does and the threequel does well at the box office, she would be the only actress to have starred in five Hollywood movies that made more than $1 billion.
If the many box office records that Avatar 2 broke are any indication, Saldana will hurt even more records as Pandora’s story continues.
